The newer Craftsman openers, many of them made by Chamberlain and sharing parts with LiftMaster and Chamberlain models, use a smaller integrated board with the receiver built right in. Here is the compatibility gotcha that matters: the board must match not just the brand but the exact model series. A Craftsman model 139.53985 logic board will not drop into a 139.53626, even if both are 1/2 HP. The wiring harnesses differ, the safety sensor inputs differ, and the travel limit logic differs. The model number is on a sticker on the side of the motor housing, usually starting with “139.” Bring that number when you call, or read it to us over the phone, and Otto can tell you in thirty seconds whether we have your board on the shelf or whether it’s a two-day order.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Craftsman openers older than about ten years, Craftsman no longer sells the OEM board. The aftermarket equivalents from reputable suppliers are generally fine, but some of the cheapest boards on the internet are refurbed units with the same weak solder joints that killed the original.
